Not a wood screw and a plastic plug. Brick needs a hammer drill, the right diameter masonry bit and proper sleeve anchors rated for the load you are hanging.
Both work, and which one depends on the condition of the brick and the age of the mortar. Old crumbling mortar will not hold. I decide once I can see it.
You cannot fish a cable through brick. So the wires get concealed a different way — through the fireplace cavity where it is safe, into a nearby wall, or in a paintable channel.
Most brick jobs are over a fireplace, which puts the screen higher than you actually want it. I generally recommend a full-motion arm so it pulls out and angles down to real viewing height.
That also means more leverage on the anchors, which is exactly why the anchoring has to be right.

Depends on the condition. Both work. Old or crumbling mortar will not hold an anchor, so sometimes the brick face is the safer choice. That is a call I make on site.
